Why Prayer Is the Most Powerful Thing You Can Do Today

What Would Change If You Gave God 20 Minutes Every Morning?

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

— 2 Timothy 2:15

Hello, dear friend. I want to ask you a question and I want you to sit with it honestly: How much time do you spend studying God’s Word each week? Not just reading a verse on an app, not just hearing a sermon on Sunday — but intentionally, purposefully studying Scripture? For many of us, the honest answer is ‘not as much as I’d like.’ And that’s okay. The beautiful thing is that you can start today.

Paul’s instruction to Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:15 is striking. He tells him to study — not casually browse, but diligently study — so that he can rightly divide the word of truth. The word ‘rightly dividing’ means to handle something accurately, like a craftsman who knows exactly how to use their tools. God’s Word is a tool you are meant to know how to use.

Why Study Matters More Than You Think

There is a difference between reading the Bible and studying it. Reading gives you familiarity. Studying gives you depth. And depth is what sustains you in hard seasons. A faith built on surface-level Bible knowledge will struggle when real trials come. But a faith rooted in studied, understood Scripture will hold.

Building Your Study Commitment

  • Choose a consistent time: Morning tends to work best for most people, but the best time is whatever you can actually stick to. Pick a time and protect it.

  • Pick a book of the Bible to work through: Rather than random reading, commit to studying one book at a time. Understanding context transforms your comprehension.

  • Use a study Bible or commentary: These tools give you historical and cultural context that deepens understanding. You don’t have to read alone.

Reflection Prompt

Write out a simple, realistic Bible study plan for the rest of this month. What time will you study? What book will you start with? What tools will you use? Make it specific enough that you can actually follow it.
