The Bold Yes: Lessons from Rebekah's Decision

The Strength in Stillness

Listen to the Devotional!
"Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth." – Psalm 46:10
The Strength in Stillness

In this busy, often loud world, finding a moment of stillness can feel like a luxury—or even a failure. As a single Christian woman, you might feel the pressure to always be doing: striving for the next promotion, planning the next ministry event, or feeling like you must fill every quiet moment with productivity or social interaction.

But Psalm 46:10 isn't just a suggestion for a nice, relaxing Sunday; it’s a command and a profound source of strength.

True rest isn't the absence of activity, but the presence of God. When you are still, you quiet the noise of comparison, the anxiety about the future, and the relentless pressure of 'what if.' Consider those moments when you’re waiting—perhaps waiting for a clear direction, a life change, or even just for a friend to text back. Instead of reaching for your phone to distract yourself, try reaching for that deep, internal stillness.

This is where you genuinely "know that I am God." In that quiet assurance, all your frantic activity fades, and you realize His power and sovereignty are more than enough. Being still means acknowledging that you don't have to control everything; you just have to trust the One who does. Your strength comes not from your hustle, but from your dependence on Him.

Reflection Prompts

What is one area of your life where you feel the most pressure to "do" rather than "be still"? Identify one small, specific time slot today (even 5 minutes) that you can dedicate to quiet, focused prayer and intentional stillness.

Read the rest of Psalm 46. Pay attention to how the psalmist describes God as a "refuge and strength" (v. 1) and relate that image to a current anxiety you are facing.
