Why Prayer Is the Most Powerful Thing You Can Do Today

The Prayers God Always Answers Yes To

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. — 1 John 5:14-15

Hello, dear friend. What if you could walk into prayer today knowing with certainty that God would answer yes? Not for every prayer — we’ve talked about how that’s not how it works — but for specific categories of prayer, there is a yes that is already settled in heaven before you’ve finished the sentence.

First John 5:14-15 is the key. When we pray according to God’s will, He hears us, and we have what we asked. The question then becomes: what is His will? And fortunately, the Bible is not shy about telling us.

Praying the Will of God with Confidence

God’s will, as revealed in Scripture, includes: wisdom (James 1:5), salvation for those we love (2 Peter 3:9), sanctification and growth in holiness (1 Thessalonians 4:3), comfort in grief and suffering (2 Corinthians 1:3-4), and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit (Luke 11:13). These are not uncertain requests. These are directly stated by God as things He desires for His people.

When you pray for wisdom in a hard decision, you are praying God’s will. When you pray for a friend or family member to come to know Jesus, you are praying God’s will. When you ask to be more like Christ, to walk in integrity, to love your neighbor better — all of it is God’s will. Our SOAP Bible studies will help you learn to read Scripture with an eye for discovering God’s will that you can bring back to prayer.

Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us that trusting God with all our heart, not leaning on our own understanding, and acknowledging Him in all our ways is the path to directed steps. When your prayers are shaped by His Word, they begin to align naturally with His will — and that’s when prayer becomes less of a negotiation and more of a conversation.

  • This week, pray three Scripture-based prayers — take a promise or a stated will of God from Scripture and pray it back to Him specifically for someone in your life.

  • Make a list of things the Bible directly states are God’s will, and let that list guide your prayer requests for the next 30 days.

  • Whenever you’re uncertain whether something is God’s will, pray: “Lord, if this is Your will, make a way. If it’s not, close every door.” Then trust the outcome.

Praying according to God’s will doesn’t mean your prayers become less personal — it means they become more powerful. Explore more about this community of women learning to pray with Scripture-anchored confidence.
