Stop Asking Everyone for Advice Until You’ve Done This First

For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
— Proverbs 2:6
Hello, dear friend. Be honest — when you face a big decision, where do you go first? For many of us, the answer is everywhere except the one place we should be going. We text our best friend, call our mom, ask the group chat, look it up on Pinterest, and scroll through Instagram looking for signs. And while community and counsel have their place, there is a Source of wisdom that surpasses every human opinion.
Proverbs 2:6 tells us something remarkable: wisdom comes from the Lord. Not from the most popular podcast, not from the influencer with the most followers, not even from the wisest person you know. True wisdom — the kind that leads to life — flows from God, and He dispenses it through His Word.

The Problem With Crowdsourcing Your Decisions
There’s nothing wrong with seeking wise counsel — in fact, Proverbs encourages it. But when we seek advice from everyone before we seek it from God, we end up overwhelmed and more confused than when we started. Different people will give you different answers based on their own experiences, preferences, and blind spots. Only God sees the full picture.
As a single woman, you’ll face decisions that others can’t fully understand — about relationships, about your future, about who God is calling you to be. God’s Word is the only source of counsel that speaks to all of it with perfect knowledge and perfect love.
How to Seek Wisdom Through Scripture
Make the Word your first stop: Before opening your phone to ask someone else, open your Bible and ask God. James 1:5 promises He will give wisdom generously.
Study the Proverbs: Commit to reading one chapter of Proverbs a day — there are 31 chapters, perfect for a month. It is a goldmine of practical wisdom for real life.
Ask the right question: Instead of ‘What should I do?’ ask ‘Lord, what does Your Word say about this?’ Then search and be still.
Reflection Prompt
Is there a decision you’ve been seeking advice on from everyone except God? Write it down today. Then open your Bible and spend time specifically asking Him for wisdom. Record what He shows you.
