For thus saith the Lord of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; —Haggai 2:7
As a single woman navigating the challenges of life, it’s easy to sometimes feel stuck—like you’re waiting for something greater to arrive. You may feel as though you are not where you thought you would be at this point in your life. Perhaps you've even sensed those familiar pangs of disappointment creeping in as you watch your friends step into their dreams of marriage and family, while you patiently await your turn. But remember, dear friend, that God has a glorious future in store for you.

Waiting with Expectation
Let me share a brief story with you. A friend of mine, Sarah, spent years preparing herself for marriage. She poured into her faith, her career, and her hobbies, all while keeping her heart’s desire for a family present. But as time went by, she struggled with discontentment. In her wait, she often looked back at missed opportunities and felt the weight of her solitude. One day, during her quiet time in prayer and reflection, she felt a gentle nudge from the Holy Spirit that shifted her mindset. "Instead of looking back at what you don’t have, look forward with anticipation and hope!" she heard in her heart.
Sarah began to focus on what God could still do in her life. She realized that her future wasn’t bleak; it was filled with possibilities—collaborative endeavors, deepening friendships, and moments of joy awaiting her. Her heart began to fill with hope as she anticipated the blessings God had in store, and she thrived while she waited.
God’s Promises Sustain Us
Just like Sarah, we can take courage from Haggai 2:7. This verse is a reminder of God’s greatness and his desire to bless us. He is not limited by our current circumstances or by timelines based on societal expectations. Rather, He shakes the heavens and the earth to prepare for a future that shakes us awake with wonder. Here are a few spiritual applications to take home:
Look Ahead: Fix your eyes on what lies ahead. Write down your dreams and hopes, and pray over them. Let God breathe life into those visions.
Stay Active: Engage in activities that bring joy to your heart and uplift your spirit. Focus on what you can do now, rather than what you cannot.
Embrace Community: Lean into relationships that encourage you. Join groups where you can support one another through your singleness, and celebrate milestones together.
As you explore these, remember that your story is filled with hope. God is weaving together a beautiful tapestry with your life and the lives of those around you.
Reflect on Your Journey
Take a moment to sit quietly and reflect on this thought: What are you most looking forward to in your future? Write it down, and as you do, lift it up in prayer, trusting that God holds your future in His hands. His plans are always for your good and His glory.
May you embrace this journey of waiting with anticipation, for a glorious future awaits you!
