His Promises are Unshakeable

For all the promises of God in Him are yea, and in Him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. 2 Corinthians 1:20
When we think about the promises God has made to us, it can sometimes feel overwhelming. Just imagine for a moment the disciples, sitting around the table with Jesus, filled both with hope and confusion. They were waiting for Him to usher in His kingdom, yet they were witnessing the unsettling events of the crucifixion unfold before their eyes. In those moments of doubt, Jesus assured them that His promises would stand firm – that His plan was still intact.

I remember a personal season in my own life that echoed a similar sentiment. As a single woman, there was a time when I felt unsure about my future. I held onto dreams of marriage and partnership, but with each passing year, those dreams felt increasingly distant. Each friend’s engagement announcement brought a mix of excitement for them and sorrow for myself, leaving me to wonder if my dreams were part of God’s plan or merely wishful thinking. In my discontentment, I turned to scripture, and 2 Corinthians 1:20 resonated deeply: "For all the promises of God in Him are yes and amen…"
This verse became a lifeline. It was a gentle, yet powerful reminder that God’s promises are not just hopeful thoughts; they are steadfast truths. He does not tease us with unattainable dreams but affirms our heart's desires when they align with His will. Just as He promised the coming of the Messiah, so too has He promised us hope and a future.
His Faithfulness in Our Singleness
As single women, waiting for God's perfect timing can be challenging. We often face pressures from family, friends, and societal expectations that marriage is the ultimate goal. However, we must remember that our worth is not measured by our relationship status. God has crafted each moment of our lives for purpose, and He extends His promises of provision, purpose, and love regardless of our circumstances.
Let’s reflect on some of the key principles to hold onto while we wait:
Trust His Timing: Our lives are a part of His grand design. What may seem like a delay to us is often God preparing our hearts and circumstances.
Find Joy in the Now: Embrace the opportunities for growth, service, and joy in this season of waiting. Engage in community, hobbies, and your relationship with God.
Seek His Word: Just like the disciples leaned into Jesus' words, we should anchor ourselves in His promises through scripture and prayer.
Reflect and Respond
As you navigate through your season of waiting, take time to reflect on God’s faithfulness in your life. Are there promises you turn to during moments of doubt? Just as 2 Corinthians 1:20 states, His promises are not only certain but filled with hope. Allow yourself to embrace His timing and trust in the goodness of His plans for you.
Consider journaling your thoughts or praying through the following reflection prompt:
What specific promises has God made to you that you need to hold onto in your current season of life? How can you actively trust in His faithfulness today?
