"Thou wilt show me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore." - Psalm 16:11
For many single women, the waiting season can often feel like a time of yearning. We come across numerous reminders of couples enjoying their lives together, and it's easy to feel disheartened, right? I once was in that very place, flipping through social media on what felt like an ordinary day, scrolling past pictures of engagements and weddings. With every photo, there was a familiar pang in my heart, a reminder of desires yet unmet.

In that moment of longing, I felt the Holy Spirit nudge me, inviting me to step back and reflect. Instead of succumbing to envy or sadness, I began to seek the joy available in His presence. I put my phone down and grabbed my Bible, going to a quiet corner of my home. As I read through the Psalms, peace washed over me. God showed me that peace and joy are not found in marital status, but in Him alone.
Embracing the Joy of His Presence
When we lean into God and His Word, we discover the joy that comes from spending time with Him, regardless of our relationship status. Psalm 16:11 reminds us that the fullness of joy is found in His presence. Here are a few ways we can cultivate that joy:
Daily Devotion: Set aside time each day for prayer and reading scripture, allowing His Word to fill your heart with joy.
Gratitude Practice: Keep a gratitude journal. Write down things you are thankful for each day, shifting your focus from lack to abundance.
Connect with Community: Engage in fellowship with other believers. Share meals, discuss scripture, and support one another in your journeys.
Service to Others: Use your time and resources to serve those around you. Joy often comes when we uplift others.
Purpose in the Waiting
The waiting season may seem daunting, but remember that God has a purpose even in this time of singleness. Allow His presence to heal the wounds of waiting and fill you with His joy. You may think relationship joy is tangible, but spiritual joy is forever. When you immerse yourself in the Lord’s presence, you become a vessel of love and joy, radiating warmth to those around you.
As you reflect on where you are today, remember that God is with you, and His joy can uplift your spirit. Lean into Him. Pursue a deeper relationship where you discover the abundant joys He has in store for you as a single woman of faith.
Reflection: Take a moment to think about ways you've experienced joy in His presence. How can you invite more of that joy into your everyday life? What steps can you take to deepen your relationship with God as you wait?
