"And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath." - Joshua 2:11

As we kick off our month focusing on the Women of the Bible, let's dive into the life of Rahab—a woman who exhibited extraordinary courage in uncertain times. Rahab lived in Jericho and worked as a prostitute, yet she became a crucial figure in Israel's conquest of the city, displaying not just bravery but also a profound faith in God.
Joshua 2:11 tells us about her striking declaration, "for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath." Rahab's faith prompted her to hide the Israelite spies, risking her life but ultimately believing that their God would deliver the land into their hands. Just like Rahab, single Christian women today often face challenges that require them to be bold and take risks. Whether it’s stepping out of your comfort zone to pursue your dreams, embracing vulnerability in relationships, or standing up for your beliefs in a world that may not support them, courage is key.
Consider a time when you felt unworthy or afraid to take a step forward. Perhaps it was applying for a job that seemed out of reach or approaching someone in faith for friendship. Much like Rahab, our pasts do not define our futures. Instead, we can choose to take a stand, trust in God's plan, and act with integrity.
Rahab’s story isn’t merely historical; it resonates with the message of faith and providence. She was not only spared during the fall of Jericho but also became part of the lineage of Jesus (Matthew 1:5). This teaches us that when we act in courage and faith, we may help change the course of history, too—starting from our own lives.
Reflection Prompts
As you reflect on Rahab’s example, ask yourself:
What areas of my life do I need to show more courage?
How can I actively demonstrate my faith, like Rahab, in both big and small ways?
Take a moment to pray over these questions, seeking God’s guidance and strength to embrace the courage He provides.
