"Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength." (Nehemiah 8:10)
Have you ever had one of those days where everything seemed to go wrong? Recently, on an ordinary Tuesday, I found myself in that very spot. I was feeling overwhelmed with the pressures of work, my singleness, and even the uncertainty that comes with waiting for God's best in my life. I sat in my favorite park, staring at the beauty around me but feeling a weight on my heart. Just beside me, a couple was laughing and enjoying their time, and I couldn't help but feel a ripple of loneliness wash over me.

Yet, as I observed the sunlight filtering through the branches, I began to remember the truth found in Nehemiah 8:10. The joy of the Lord is our strength! This joy isn’t about our circumstances but about the assurance of our salvation. Whatever season we are in, God’s joy can be our anchor, a source of strength amidst the struggles of everyday life.
The Assurance of Salvation
When we think of salvation, it’s easy to view it as just a ticket to heaven, but it is so much more. It offers us a relationship with our Creator—a bond that brings peace and joy. On days when I feel alone, I ask myself, "What brings me joy?" I realize that it's not about a partner by my side; it’s about God’s unwavering love for me.
Here are some ways to actively embrace the joy that comes from our salvation:
Remember His Promises: Spend time in Scripture and remind yourself of the promises He has for you. Each one is a testament to His faithfulness.
Gratitude Journal: List out the blessings, both big and small. This simple practice shifts our focus from what we lack to the abundance we already have.
Connect with Community: Surround yourself with other believers. Share your struggles and victories. Community uplifts us and reflects God's joy.
Serve Others: Sometimes, the best way to feel joy is to share it with others. Find ways to bless those around you, and watch joy multiply.
Choosing Joy Daily
It is a conscious choice we make every day, especially when circumstances feel heavy. When we remind ourselves of our salvation and the joy that flows from it, we can face each day with strength and confidence. Just like Nehemiah encouraged the people, let us not be sorrowful but find joy in His salvation. It’s this joy that sustains us and carries us through every season of our lives.
So, dear friend, as you go about your day, take a moment to breathe in the truth: your joy is anchored in the Lord’s love for you. No matter your waiting period, lean into that joy and let it fuel your strength.
How can you bring the joy of the Lord into your life today? Reflect on His goodness and embrace the delightful assurance of your salvation. You are cherished, you are loved, and you are not alone.
