The Serenity of God’s Love in Singleness

Embracing God’s Love in Your Singleness

This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. (John 15:12)

Perhaps like many of you, I have found myself in moments of waiting—waiting for a relationship, waiting for God’s promises to unfold, and even waiting for a clearer vision of my future. One Sunday afternoon, feeling particularly restless, I decided to volunteer at a local community center. The experience opened my eyes to the power of love in ways I hadn’t imagined.

As I helped serve meals to those in need, I was struck by how simple acts of kindness could transform not just the day but the entire outlook on life for so many. Amid the laughter and the sharing of stories, I realized that loving others as Christ loves us is transformative. Volunteering gave me a sense of purpose, but more than that, it planted seeds of love in my heart that I was able to nurture and share even more.

The Call to Love

In John 15:12, Jesus commands us to love one another as He has loved us. This isn’t limited to romantic love but encompasses every kind of love: friendship, compassion, and service. This commandment challenges us to reflect His love in our daily interactions. As single Christian women, it's easy to get caught up in the longing for partnership. Yet, God invites us to thrive now by extending love to those around us.

Here are practical ways to commit to loving others as God loves you:

  • Practice kindness: Small acts can make a big difference. A smile or a listening ear can reflect God’s love powerfully.

  • Be present: Engage with those around you. Whether it’s your family, friends, or colleagues, showing genuine interest can foster deeper connections.

  • Volunteer: Like I did, take time to serve your community. This can help shift your focus from waiting to actively participating in God's work.

  • Pray for others: Interceding on someone else's behalf is one of the most profound ways to love. It draws us closer to God and those we pray for.

As you embrace these actions, remember that loving others is not only about the grand gestures, but often about the small moments too. It’s in those little instances where God's love shines the brightest through us.

Reflection Prompt

How can you reflect God’s love in your current circumstances? Consider writing down a few specific ways you can love someone this week. Ask God to open your heart to recognize opportunities for love and connection.
