The Bold Yes: Lessons from Rebekah's Decision

Cultivating Contentment in the Waiting

Listen to the Devotional!
"Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content." - Philippians 4:11
Anchored in Perfect Peace

The single life is often presented as a waiting room—a pause button until the "real" life (often involving a spouse) begins. But the Apostle Paul's words remind us that contentment isn't a destination we reach once everything aligns perfectly; it's a discipline we cultivate right where we are.

For the single Christian woman, this looks like refusing to allow your marital status to be the barometer for your joy or peace. It means seeing your current state not as a deficiency, but as a unique season of unhindered service and deep personal growth. Perhaps you've been scrolling through social media, feeling a pang of envy at the couples or families. That's a moment to turn inward and ask, "Where can I find joy and fulfillment today, outside of that future desire?"

A concrete example: Instead of letting Friday nights become a reminder of being alone, you might purposefully dedicate that time to a ministry you're passionate about, like volunteering at a homeless shelter or hosting a Bible study for other single women. By actively choosing to serve and be present in your current reality, you redirect your focus from what is missing to what God has entrusted you with. This proactive step transforms "waiting" into worship and turns potential loneliness into fruitful solitude. True contentment is realizing that the grace of God is all-sufficient now.

Reflection Prompts

What specific area of your life (e.g., career, ministry, family) could you dedicate more unhindered time and energy to this week because of your single status?

Spend 15 minutes today meditating on Psalm 37:4 ("Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.") Write down one actionable way you can "delight" in Him today.

The stability you seek isn't found in a person or a future event, but in the unwavering sufficiency of Christ, making your single season a beautiful, fertile ground for true joy.
