"And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness." (Colossians 3:14)
As I sat in my favorite spot at the park, the sun filtered through the trees, illuminating the pages of my Bible. I often come to this serene place, seeking clarity and peace during my journey of singleness. Today, however, was different. I was overwhelmed by a sense of longing, reflecting on my dreams of love and marriage. It was in this moment that I was reminded of Colossians 3:14, where Paul encourages us to put on love as the bond of perfection.

Finding Comfort in Love
This led me to consider the nature of love. Love isn’t just a feeling; it's an action – a choice we make daily. As single Christian women, we often navigate a world that idolizes romantic relationships. Yet, we can thrive in our current circumstances by cultivating love in various forms. Whether it's nurturing friendships, serving our communities, or supporting our families, each act of love strengthens our foundation.
For example, I recall a time when a friend was feeling down. I decided to bake her favorite cookies and spend an afternoon chatting and laughing together. In that moment, our bond deepened, and I was reminded of how fulfilling love can be, even outside of a romantic relationship. Building a life filled with love takes intention, but it enriches our lives immensely.
Living Out Love Daily
So, how can we embody this love that Paul speaks of? Here are a few practical ways you can incorporate love into your daily life while waiting for your future spouse:
Practice Gratitude: Start each day by thanking God for the blessings in your life. This will open your heart to share love with others.
Volunteer and Serve: Seek opportunities to give back to your community. Acts of service are powerful expressions of love.
Foster Relationships: Invest time in friendships and family. Build a support system anchored in love and understanding.
Reflect God’s Love: Make a conscious effort to reflect God's unconditional love in your words and actions toward others.
Be Patient and Kind: Remember the definition of love from 1 Corinthians 13. Practice patience with yourself and others during this season.
The journey of waiting for marriage can feel long at times, but it doesn’t have to be lonely or stagnant. By choosing to focus on love's transformative power today, we can cultivate an inner joy that prepares our hearts for the future God has for us.
As you spend time in prayer and reflection, ask yourself:
How can I better express love in my current relationships?
What steps can I take this week to embody the love Paul describes?
Be encouraged, dear sister; your journey is meaningful, and with love as your foundation, you can thrive beautifully in this season of singleness.
